Dental Implants

Dental implants offer an alternative to traditional tooth replacement options, such as dental bridges and dentures. A dental implant is a small titanium post which is placed in the jaw bone where it acts as an anchor for an artificial tooth. At his North Dallas practice, serving McKinney, Frisco, Plano, and Richardson, Texas, Dr. Bosher can use dental implants to support a full denture, making it secure and comfortable, or to replace a single missing tooth without affecting adjacent teeth, as is necessary with dental bridges.

The Implant Dentistry Process

To begin the implant dentistry process, Dr. Bosher will examine your teeth and jaw bone to determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants. In general, you need a sufficient amount of healthy bone to support the implant. He will take digital x-rays and digital impressions of your mouth using the CADENT iTero™ unit and create a template which will be used as a guide for the precise placement of the implant. During the next appointment, the implant will be placed in the jaw bone during a simple surgical procedure.

Once the implant is placed, it will take three to six months for the bone to heal and fuse to the titanium post, forming a strong foundation for the replacement tooth. Dr. Bosher will ensure that your jaw has healed sufficiently, and then attach the replacement crown, bridge, or denture to the implant. With proper care, your implant can last a lifetime; however, the crown, bridge, or denture may wear and need to be replaced over time.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns can be used to treat teeth that are severely damaged, decayed, chipped, or discolored. A crown fits over the entire surface of a tooth like a cap to conceal imperfections. Crowns can also add support to teeth that have been damaged by decay or weakened by root canal therapy. During the procedure, Dr. Bosher first prepares the tooth to make room for the crown. He then uses the state-of-the-art CEREC® system to create a natural-looking porcelain crown in his office. The crown is then bonded in place. The entire procedure is completed in a single office visit with a result that looks and feels completely natural.

Dentures

Dentures have long been used to replace missing teeth. However, they have a reputation for being uncomfortable, often slipping out of place while the wearer is speaking or chewing. Today, however, we can stabilize full and partial dentures with dental implants, making them more comfortable and convenient than ever before. Dr. Bosher can design a special denture which locks into dental implants or an implant bar which is surgically placed in the jaw bone during the implant dentistry procedure. Dental Bridges

In addition to dental implants, we offer our patients dental bridges for the replacement of missing teeth. A dental bridge includes one or more artificial teeth which are attached to the adjacent natural teeth with dental crowns. The adjacent teeth are first prepared for placement of the crowns and an impression is taken of the treatment area. Then, the bridge, including the artificial tooth and crowns, is custom-made and bonded into place. Bridges can also be held in place with metal clasps which attach to the adjoining teeth, or they can be stabilized with dental implants.

Root Canal (Endodontic) Therapy

Sometimes, a tooth becomes badly decayed and the infection affects the pulp in the center of the tooth, which contains nerves and blood vessels. In such cases, we can perform root canal (endodontic) therapy to save the tooth. Dr. Bosher is extremely gentle when performing root canal therapy, and ensures that his patients are comfortable throughout the procedure. Root canal therapy involves the removal of the infected pulp, which can weaken the tooth. Therefore, Dr. Bosher will typically suggest the placement of a crown on a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy to give it support and protect it from further damage.

My dear Dr. Bosher,
I want to let you know that all my sore spots are gone, and the dentures are just great! They fit and feel much better than they did, even when they were new. I am so sorry that I met you under the lousy shape I was in. I would drag myself into your office and complain about all my terrible pain. I apologize for all of that, ‘cause I’m really a pretty friendly person. I want to tell you that you are a man of heroic proportions, to put up with such complainers. I truly admire your talent and stoic demeanor to put up with folks when they’re just complaining. I have several of your business cards, and will recommend you (and only you) to anyone who needs a dentist of high talent and comforting “bedside manner.” And when I run out of business cards, I’m going to come back and get some more. Thank you, dear doctor, for your many skills.

Most sincerely,
Dr. Stephen C.
Garland, Texas
